Policy Statements

1. Fines Arising from Violations of Environmental, Health or Safety Regulations Shall be Paid by the Organizational Unit Responsible

The responsible unit is that subdivision or department of the University whose activities or employees were involved in, responsible for, or caused the violation of the safety regulations.

Fines will be paid by the responsible unit provided that the unit knew or should have known about the requirement involved in the violation.

Fines involving facility inadequacies will be an institutional responsibility.

2. The Fines shall be Processed by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety Office, if Fines for Parts of a Citation are Allocated to Different Departments

Appropriate budget authorities shall initiate journal voucher transfers. Fine payment shall be undertaken as appropriate within the relevant citation process, following any appeals or hearings which may be considered advisable.

If a listed fine is to be allocated to more than one department, the director of Environmental Health and Safety shall be responsible for dividing the fine among departments in an equitable manner.

3. Conflicts Regarding the Fine Issues may be Referred to the Provost or Vice President of the Involved Areas
